Powerfolder is a great freeware application that synchronizes folders over the internet or local networks. This is for example pretty useful if you are working with a desktop pc and a notebook at the same time and want to synchronize data between them. Sometimes it´s a small utility that helps you the most. Did you ever forget a password from an email account, a forum account or another piece of software ? What did you do to find it out again ? Maybe the software / script had a function to mail you your password, but what if it had no option like that ?

The password is right there, but you can´t read it, it´s just ******. Snadboys Revelation helps you in this case. It is able to reveal the password behind the stars. Just fire it up, move the pointer over the password field and the password will be revealed in the revelation software. There are other tools out there that do the same, for instance pants off.

Visual Task Tips is another little freeware application for windows xp which displays a preview image if you move your mouse over a folder in the taskbar. Simply download the 90K file from the developers homepage. After installation you have the option to run it and add it to your windows startup files. To disable it again you start it again and it asks you if you want to disable it.

Bulk Rename Utility is a utility which allows you to easily rename files and directories, based upon extemely flexible criteria. Add date-stamps, replace numbers, insert strings, convert case, add auto-numbers, process folders and subfolders.

Lets say you have a digital camera and creat lots of pictures when your on holidays. Those cameras normally name the pictures DSC000001.jpg and its kinda hard to search through those pictures. It would be much easier if you could rename those files with ease so that the filename itself gives you information about the pictures. Pictures of your december 2005 trip to Colorado could be named 2005_12_colorado_001.jpg for example. Easier to recognize isn´t it ? Well, Bulk Renamer can do this for you.

It is a well know fact that files that are deleted by normal means can be recovered with ease using so called file recovery utilities. This might not be a problem for most users but it surely is not nice if you sell a used computer and someone discovers private pictures, account data and the like on the formatted hard drive.

Super Shredder from analog x deletes files securely so that they can´t be recovered by file recovery software. There are still ways to recover those files but the equipment needed is way to expensive for almost everyone. The tool supports common methods like Gutmann or Nispom (Departement of Defense) but also a way to completly customize the procedure.

Eraser is another tool which could be used.

Folder Size is a nice little freeware application that adds a new column to the details view of your windows explorer displaying the size of every folder that exists in the current directory. Its mighty helpful if you want to clean your hard drive. It shows exactly which folders contain the biggest files and its always a good idea to start cleaning there.
