Desktop Icon Manager

Blogged in appearance, system by Administrator Friday September 29, 2006 at about 11:25 am

DIManager is a small, practical tool to quickly save and restore the position of desktop icons. When the screen resolution changes, Windows often automatically repositions the icons on the desktop. These then have to be rearranged manually to their customary positions. Here is where DIManager comes to the rescue: One click, and the original order is instantly restored!

The use of this tool is absolutely simple. Two options are available to the user for saving the current icon positions: “Quick save…” and “Save in profile…”. The second alternative offers the possibility to save an individual profile for each and every screen resolution. A particular profile can then be selected and loaded with a click of the mouse key. Moreover, DIManager also provides the option to add a Save and a Restore menu item to the context menu of the recycle bin, where they can be conveniently accessed and instantly activated. Lastly, the highest degree of comfort is provided by the option in the settings to automatically restore the icon postions whenever the screen resolution changes. In this case no user intervention is needed.

Quicknote 5.3

Blogged in reminder, system by Administrator Thursday September 28, 2006 at about 7:01 pm

Often you do not need an advanced text processor but a virtual scrapbook to quickly write down an occasional thought, a plan for the day or an Internet URL. With a plain text editor, which can be used for this purpose, you have to run the program first, then create a new file, then type a line or two and save the file. Too many things to do in order to simply write down a thought? With Quicknote, it does not matter which programs you are currently using; whenever you want to write something down that comes to mind, just ‘wake up’ Quicknote by touching a small line on the top of your screen with the mouse or by pressing shortcut keys. In its resizable window you can jot down your notes and organize them in categories or even sketch small drawings. Still, this tiny tool has more possibilities than it seems on the first thought!

Beneath the normal text functions, it can convert units, let you directly access frequently run programs, encrypt secret texts, change the system volume by hotkeys, manage windows tasks, and even send notes through a network. It has also a powerful reminding tool, which can remind you of your notes at certain times, run programs or shutdown automatically your PC. The program is absolutely free, so download this handy tool today and concentrate on content rather than form.

Moon Edit

Blogged in editors, text by Administrator Monday September 25, 2006 at about 8:06 am

Moon Edit is a multi-user text editor: Every co-author can edit the shared document at any time, from any place, and at the same time! There’s no need to send files via FTP or to compare documents when multiple users need to make changes to it independently. Every user has their own color. Every cursor movement and text changes are simultaneously visible on the screen by all users.

“ME” uses local prediction code – the same technology used in modern video games! You can use a dedicated standalone server to share a whole directory of text files. Remote users can then edit these files using the “me” client – at the same time. This functionality can be useful for creating websites directly on the www server – which is more efficient than editing files privately and then uploading them via FTP. You could even use “ME” to run a real-time text forum :)

Blogged in cli, system by Administrator Wednesday September 20, 2006 at about 8:58 pm

Cmdow is a Win32 commandline utility for NT4/2000/XP/2003 that allows windows to be listed, moved, resized, renamed, hidden/unhidden, disabled/enabled, minimized, maximized, restored, activated/inactivated, closed, killed and more.

Cmdow is 31kb standalone executable. It does not create any temporary files, nor does it write to the registry. There is no installation procedure, just run it. To completely remove all traces of it from your system, delete it.

Cmdow was written with batch file programmers in mind. Particular attention has been paid to Cmdows output making it easy to process with the ‘FOR /F’ command found in NT4/2000/XP/2003.

Dscaler

Blogged in multimedia, video by Administrator Tuesday September 19, 2006 at about 7:04 pm

DScaler is a piece of software that grabs analog, interlaced video, and deinterlaces it to make it a progressive scan feed then allows scaling to any resolution for use on your computer monitor or projector. Analog, interlaced video is what devices like VCRs, laserdisc, and game consoles output.

Unlike most existing software for use with TV cards, DScaler implements sophisticated deinterlacing algorithms. Using such algorithms makes sure that each kind of video source is handled a different way. It provides the user with a level of image quality unknown to PC owners until now.
